Here are 2 pictures from my most recent NES project. I replaced the 72 pin which is a well known procedure, however I also performed the 10NES lockout disable surgery!

I learned about this from the NES Wikipedia article (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nintendo_entertainment_system) then googled a guide on how to disable it and viola! I now have a region-free NES system that NEVER blinks!

Warning the following images are graphic in nature, and may frighten sissies, wusses, and small children. viewer discretion is advised.

Yup, that's right I took that little guy there and Blam! Shanked the little guy. Presto. No more blinking. Now if the cartridge isn't connected you get a pretty green screen. Rationale behind this is that disabling the lockout chip will improve the systems success rate in starting up games; the Wikipedia article explains the details of why the 10NES causes problems.
